IMPORTANCE OF ADAM APPLE

Hocuspocus has gone viral about the etymology of Adam apple. Adam apple is a bump which shapes like the "mathematical less than symbol (<)" along the neck. Many believe that Adam apple is caused by the apple ate by Adam (the first man) as narrated by Abrahamic religions.

How true is that?

Unfortunately, neither Christianity, Islam nor Jewish religion evidenced the hypothesis everyone took as a law without going through experiments. The bump across the neck was neither caused by the apple Adam ate nor what he could not swallow.

Adam apple is a unisex characteristics, it is present in male's and female's neck. Scientifically, it is caused by the extension of the thyroid cartilage.

Thyroid cartilage is located in-front of the larynx (voice box). It serves as protection for the larynx and the vocal cords and facilitates how deep the voice will sound.

Adam apple, grows slightly and almost unseen in a female's neck while in a male's neck, the thyroid cartilage grows out obvious.  Whereas, males with lager Adam apple tends to have thicker voice than ones with smaller Adam apple.

More over, there are no disadvantages of having a smaller Adam apple. People with larger Adam apple also engage in surgery to reduce it's size. The surgery of the thyroid cartilage is called "Chondrolaryngoplasty". This surgery has been effective and helpful since the start, adverse effect of the surgery is very rare.
